Your Questions about Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover

How is this product different from regular Tilex® Mold & Mildew Remover?

This product contains a unique phase transfer technology and foaming action that allows it to penetrate deep into mold & mildew and attack mildew at its roots.

Is Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover safe for use on all bathroom surfaces?

Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover can be used on most bathroom surfaces, including grout, tile, tubs, fiberglass, glass shower doors, vinyl curtains, counters, sinks and no-wax floors. However, you should rinse immediately after use on rubber, plastic, vinyl, and you also should avoid prolonged contact with metal and old porcelain as Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover can react with these materials and leave a “rust” stain.

Is Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover safe for use on marble?

Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover is safe for use on synthetic marble; however, we recommend against using it on natural marble.

Is it okay to use Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover on floors?

Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover can be used on a number of flooring surfaces, including tile and no-wax floors. We recommend against using Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover on wood or painted surfaces, however. If you are in doubt about a particular surface, it's always a good idea to test the product on an inconspicuous area.

I have an oak vanity in my bathroom. Can I clean it with Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover?

Unfortunately, we recommend against using Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover on wood or painted surfaces.

I've had a bottle of Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover for at least 2 years. Is it still okay to use?

The shelf life of Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover is one year, so the product probably wouldn't be very effective. However, while the product loses some of its cleaning power, it should not harm recommended surfaces if it were used after a year.

Is it okay to mix Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover with other products?

No. You should never mix household cleaning products as hazardous gases may result.

Isn't Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover just the same as bleach?

Both household bleach and Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover contain sodium hypochlorite as their active ingredient. This is the ingredient that makes Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover so effective at removing mildew. However, Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover also contains surfactants (detergent-type ingredients) that give it more cleaning power on nonporous surfaces.

What are the ingredients in Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover?

Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover contains sodium hypochlorite; this is the active ingredient that allows the product to kill mildew and effectively remove its stains. In addition, Tilex® Mildew Root™ Penetrator & Remover contains surfactants. These detergent-like ingredients enhance the product's overall cleaning performance. Finally, the product contains a pleasant fragrance.
